Viking gets production go ahead for Twin Otter 400

written by WOFA | May 23, 2011

Canadian-based firm Viking Air Limited has received final production approval from Transport Canada for the manufacture of its Twin Otter Series 400, with the first five aircraft already completed.

The Production Manufacturing approval, given as a formalised manufacturing certificate, now allows Viking to issue airworthiness certificates for aircraft produced under their revised manufacturing approval. The latest development  represents the final step in Viking’s production program, after receiving Type Approval from both Transport Canada and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for the Series 400 Twin Otter in 2010. In addition, Transport Canada has also given avionics approval to Viking’s Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) business, itself a significant part of the company’s Series 400 modernisation package.

The Series 400 production program was launched in 2007, with Viking estimating a production backlog worth over C$300m through to 2014.
