Strategic cuts back on Bali flights, pulls out of Gladstone and Townsville

written by WOFA | August 8, 2011
Strategic is deploying a new reservations system.

Strategic Airlines is to discontinue its Bali/Denpasar services from Perth and Townsville, and will also drop its Brisbane-Gladstone services.

First to be cancelled is Strategic’s A320 Gladstone-Brisbane service, wrapping up on August 12. That will be followed by a cessation of its weekly Brisbane-Townsville-Denpasar A320 service from October 1. (Strategic will continue to operates its weekly direct Brisbane-Denpasar A330 service.)

Perth-Denpasar flights will also finish on October 31, but Strategic will continue flights between Perth and Derby in WA’s north. Virgin Australia/Pacific Blue, Jetstar, Skywest and AirAsia all continue to operate on the Perth-Bali route, with Garuda subsidiary Citilink reportedly interested in commencing flights between Perth and Denpasar.

The recent developments follow a similar decision by Strategic to end flights between Port Hedland and Bali earlier in March, saying that the route was “no longer commercially viable”.
