Boeing has begun assembling its 1000th 777 airliner, saying the model becomes the fastest twin aisle airplane to reach that milestone, with work now underway on the aircraft’s 29.5m wing spars.

The US aerospace giant says 64 airlines have ordered 1,295 777s since the jet was launched 16 year ago. The 1000th 777, a -300ER, will be delivered to Dubai based Emirates, the largest 777 customer with 95 currently in its fleet.
