Timor-Leste Aviation Group Black Hawks approach the Metinaro range facility in East Timor.

The Australian Army’s Timor Leste Aviation Group (TLAG) 14 has returned home to Australia after serving in East Timor for six months as part of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF).

TLAG 14 personnel and S-70A-9 Black Hawk helicopters were replaced by TLAG 15, with the unit providing a troop lift and aero-medical evacuation capability to ISF while deployed to Timor.

TLAG 14 Officer Commanding, Major Tony Dennis, said that his detachment had “performed exceptionally well”, conducting five AMEs “in support of ISF soldiers on patrol in Timor Leste, the Tour de Timor, Operation TOWER and local nationals.”

Personnel from TLAG 14 were presented with the East Timor Solidarity Medal during a ceremony attended by the President of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta, ahead of their return home on February 14.
