Regional Express has released a statement regarding government proposals to relax provisions of the Qantas Sale Act and to provide a debt guarantee to Qantas.

The statement backs the position of the Regional Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) in calling for a level playing field for all airlines in the private sector, and says that Rex believes the Qantas Sale Act “no longer serves any practical purposes and should be repealed.”But Rex believes that providing a debt guarantee to Qantas would create an “uneven playing field” for other carriers, effectively placing regional airlines “in exactly the same position as Qantas claims to be in now.”

Rex has also described Treasurer Joe Hockey’s claim that Qantas should be given special consideration due to its contribution to the nation as “an insult to all other carriers,” adding that, “Rex has serviced the bush faithfully for the past decade since it was founded, with great distinction, reliability and safety in spite of very trying circumstances.”
